DESCRIPTION:The 2nd session of the 115th Congress will formally convene on January 3\, 2018. (Every Congress lasts for two years. Each of the years is a session.) \nHouse:  According to the House Republican Cloakroom\, the House will meet in pro forma sessions only during the first week of January 2018.  On January 3 at 11:00 am it will formally adjourn the 1st session of the 115th Congress\, and at 12:00 pm will formally convene the 2nd session\, but those are pro forma sessions only.  No legislative business is scheduled for the first week of January. \nSenate:   According to the Senate Democrats website\, the Senate will meet at 12:00 pm on January 3 and new Senators will be sworn in. (That presumably refers to Senator-elect Doug Jones\, D-Alabama).  At 5:00 pm\, the Senate will consider the nomination of John Rood to be Under Secretary of Defense for Policy\, with a vote at 5:30 pm ET.  The schedule for the remainder of the week is not posted on there or the website of the Senate itself. \n
