116th CONGRESS CONVENES, Jan 3, 2019

The 116th Congress will convene on January 3, 2019.

As of December 16, 2018, the plans is for the House and Senate to meet on January 3 (a Thursday) to begin the new Congress.  The House will also meet on January 4, but the Senate will recess until January 8.

In the 116th Congress, Democrats will control the House, with 235 Democrats, 199 Republicans, and one race still undecided amidst fraud allegations.

Republicans will continue to control the Senate, with 53 Republicans and 47 Democrats (two of whom are Independents — Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine — but caucus with the Democrats).
