DESCRIPTION:Update\, January 2:  House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has issued the schedule for tomorrow. \nThe House will convene at 11:00 am ET to complete 118th Congress legislative business and adjourn sine die. (“Sine die” is Latin for “without a day” meaning the House will adjourn without a day to return\, which means it is ending.) \nThe 119th Congress will meet at 12:00 pm ET with a recorded quorum call following the Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. \nThe House will then proceed with election of the Speaker of the House.  (That takes place before the Members are sworn in\, so they are Members-elect at that point.) \nOnce a Speaker is chosen\, the Speaker will swear in the other Members as well as the Delegates from American Samoa\,  District of Columbia\, Guam\, the Northern Mariana Islands\, and U.S. Virgin Islands\, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico. \nOriginal Entry: The 119th Congress will convene in the U.S. Capitol at noon on January 3\, 2025. \nThe House and Senate schedules for 2025 are as follows: \nDates in yellow are the days the House is in session.\nDates in red are federal holidays.
