2021 CUBESAT ID AND TRACKING INDUSTRY DAY (Aerospace Corp), Jan 12-13, 2021, virtual

The Aerospace Corporation will hold a two-day “Industry Day” from January 12-13, 2021 to discuss how to advance technology that will enable identification and tracking of cubesats in orbit.  The meeting on January 12 is 1:00-5:00 pm ET and on January 13 is 10:00 am – 2:00 pm ET.

Organizers describe the event as follows:

Please join us for the Small Satellite Tracking and Industry Day Technical Workshop held virtually on January 12-13, 2021.

Due to their small size and uniform shape, CubeSat tracking and ID can be a challenge to SSA/STM centers, and many (>30%) CubeSats go unidentified for months after launch. The FCC has discussed requiring tracking/ID aids for very small satellites, but it is their opinion that the technologies are not quite there yet. Our aim with this Industry Day is to bring together regulators, small sat owner/operators, SSA data providers, CubeSat launch consolidators, and technology developers in a virtual format to discuss how to solve this problem, specifically how to raise the technology readiness level of techniques and technologies that can be used to solve this problem, and what might be an appropriate regulatory framework for this issue.

The objective of this workshop is to frame the problem, hear from regulators, STM coordinators, and owner/operators, and to try to find a way forward, in which Aerospace would be available to evaluate proposed techniques and technologies for potential inclusion as a future hosted payload with the CubeSat launch consolidator. The goal is to elicit industry and academia to come up with novel and interesting solutions to this problem, and to inform regulators.

More information including an agenda and how to participate is on the event’s website.
