SUMMARY:3RD STARSHIP ORBITAL FLIGHT TEST\, Mar 14\, 2024\, Boca Chica\, TX\, window opens 8:00 am ET (webcast begins 30 min in advance)
DESCRIPTION:Update\, March 13:  SpaceX says they will launch Starship OFT-3 tomorrow\, March 14. The 110-minute launch window opens at 7:00 am Central Time (8:00 am Eastern).  Webcast on SpaceX’s website and X beginning about 30 minutes before launch. \n\nTargeting Thursday\, March 14 for Starship’s third flight test. A 110-minute launch window opens at 7:00 a.m. CT → https://t.co/bJFjLCiTbK pic.twitter.com/hFq1L4w9et \n— SpaceX (@SpaceX) March 13\, 2024 \n \nUpdate\, March 12: Musk posted today that they are aiming for “end of week” pending weather. It’s not clear if Thursday (March 14) counts as “end of week” or if he means Friday or Saturday. \n\nFlight 3 end of week\, pending weather https://t.co/DLGD6Vj7SB \n— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 12\, 2024 \n\nUpdate\, March 6:  SpaceX posted a new “tweet” today again saying the projected date is March 14\, but noting that regulatory approval is pending. More information is on the company’s website\, but neither mentions the time.  The website reveals they are flying a different trajectory this time\, with splashdown in the Indian Ocean instead of near Hawaii as had been planned for the first two tests. The change is to enable them to “attempt new techniques like in-space engine burns while maximizing public safety.” \n\nThe third flight test of Starship could launch as soon as March 14\, pending regulatory approval → https://t.co/bJFjLCiTbK pic.twitter.com/yHqoWFSKdY \n— SpaceX (@SpaceX) March 6\, 2024 \n\nOriginal Entry: On March 5\, 2024\, SpaceX posted on X that it plans the third Starship Orbital Flight Test (also called an Integrated Flight Test) on March 14\, 2024 beginning at 7:30 am ET\, though it is not clear if that is when the webcast begins or the anticipated launch time. \nThe first two tests\, in April 2023 and November 2023\, were not successful in achieving orbit. \n\nWatch Starship’s third flight test https://t.co/1u46r769Vp \n— SpaceX (@SpaceX) March 5\, 2024 \n \nSpaceX needs a launch license from the FAA and there is no indication that has been issued yet\, but the FAA closed its mishap investigation for the second flight test on February 26 so a license could be forthcoming at any time.
