SUMMARY:2nd SPACE CAPACITY ALLOCATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY OF SPACE ACTIVITIES\, June 3-5\, 2026\, Milan\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:The Secure World Foundation is co-sponsoring the second Space Capacity Allocation for the Sustainability of Space Activities workshop from June 3-5\, 2026 at Politecnico di Milano\, Italy. \nMore information is on the event’s website\, which says in part: \nSpace\, as any other ecosystem\, has a finite capacity. The continuous growth of space activities\, due to our increasing reliance on services from Space\, the privatisation of the space market and the lower cost of deploying smaller and distributed missions in orbit\, is from one side improving human-life quality and\, however\, it is also contributing to overloading this delicate system. International discussion is ongoing at the Inter Agency Debris Coordination Committee and at COPUOS on how to measure the overall capacity of the space environment and assess the impact that individual missions have on it. \nThe  2nd Space capacity allocation for the sustainability of space activities workshop will be held in Politecnico di Milano (Italy) on 3-5 June 2026\, in Bovisa Campus at the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology. \nThe workshop is organised by Politecnico di Milano\, the European Space Agency\, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) and EUCASS. The workshop is sponsored by the GREEN SPECIES project funded by the European Research Council lead by Politecnico di Milano and co-sponsored by Secure World Foundation. \n \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:The International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety (IAASS) will hold a webinar on June 4\, 2026 from 2:00-3:30 pm ET on “Characterizing Cognitive Performance During Surface EVA.” \nMore information and registration instructions are on the event’s website\, which says: \nExtravehicular activity (EVA) is one of the most dangerous and\ncognitively demanding tasks that astronauts can execute\, and the\ncognitive demands associated with future partial gravity EVAs on the\nMoon and Mars are expected to be higher compared to microgravity\nEVAs currently conducted from the International Space Station (ISS).\nHigh cognitive workload presents an important risk to crew safety\nduring surface exploration EVA. This webinar will describe current\nefforts at NASA to characterize cognitive workload and performance\nduring EVA\, with a focus on recent research results using an extended\nreality exploration surface analog environment.

The launch window is open until 11:52:46 am on June 10 JST (which is 10:52:46 am on June 9 EDT). \nThe “reserved launch period” is through June 30. \nMore information is on JAXA’s website. \n \n  \nThe test launch follows a failure on December 22\, 2025 JST that led to the loss of the QZS-5 navigation satellite on December 22\, 2025 JST.  The satellite reportedly separated from the rocket during stage separation between the first and second stages and fell into the ocean. The cause was later reported to be due to adhesive strips in the payload support structure peeling off.

SUMMARY:9th PRAGUE SPACE SECURITY CONFERENCE\, June 14-16\, 2026\, Prague
DESCRIPTION:The 9th Prague Space Security Conference will take place June 14-16\, 2026 in Prague\, the Czech Republic. \nThe theme this year is: “Space Races Reimagined: Lunar Ambitions\, Ground-Based Competition\, and Principled Governance.” \nMore information is on the event’s website\, which says: \n\n\n\nThe 9th Prague Space Security Conference will focus on strategic competition with China\, including how seemingly benign capital flows\, investment patterns\, and products (e.g.\, Exchanged-Traded Funds\, etc.)\, and industrial dependencies are largely being employed by China to erode the resilience\, autonomy\, and competitiveness of allied space sectors. It will also examine how China’s rapidly advancing cislunar and lunar ambitions intersect with its intensifying ground-based space race and underscore the urgent need for principled space stewardship. \nPanelists will also assess the impact of the Russian threat on alliance cohesion\, driving a shifting of security-related burdens across NATO\, the EU\, and Asia\, reshaping traditional areas of responsibility and demanding new models of allied burden-sharing.   \nIn a series of high-level panels and moderated discussions\, participants will examine concrete policy options\, operational approaches\, and regulatory tools to strengthen space governance. The programme will bring together some 200 senior government officials\, military leaders\, industry leaders\, and experts from around the world.  \n\n \n\n\n

SUMMARY:GALACTIC FRONTIERS 2026: ADVANCING X-RAY ASTRONOMY\, June 15-18\, 2026\, Physikzentrum Bad Honnef\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:“Galactic Frontiers 2026: Advancing X-Ray Astronomy in a Multiwavelength Universe” will take place June 15-18\, 2026 at Physikzentrum Bad Honnef\, Germany. \nMore information is on the event’s website\, which says: \nThe 858th WE-Heraeus Seminar “Galactic Frontiers 2026: Advancing X-ray Astronomy in a Multiwavelength Universe” will bring together leading and early-career researchers to discuss the latest advances in Galactic X-ray astronomy enabled by missions such as eROSITA\, XMM-Newton\, Chandra\, XRISM and other flagship missions. Topics include\, among others\, stars and stellar populations in the X-ray domain\, diffuse X-ray emission in the interstellar medium\, supernova remnants and their role in feedback processes\, and the population and evolution of compact objects (white dwarfs\, neutron stars\, black holes). \nA key focus will be the synergy between X-ray studies and observations across the electromagnetic spectrum – from radio to gamma rays – as well as the growing contributions of amateur astronomy networks to wide-field optical searches for extended nebulae and SNRs. \nThe seminar will be held from 15–18 June 2026 at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef. The program will include invited overview talks\, contributed presentations\, poster sessions\, and dedicated reporter talks that summarize the key results from selected posters. A concluding excursion to the Effelsberg 100-m Radio Telescope\, operated by the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy\, is planned. The event is designed to foster multi-wavelength collaboration and to provide a stimulating forum for researchers at all career stages. \n

SUMMARY:NASA/KATALYST MEDIA TELECON ON REBOOSTING SWIFT\, June 17\, 2026\, time TBA
DESCRIPTION:NASA and Katalyst are preparing to launch a Katalyst robotic servicing mission to attempt to reboost NASA’s Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. Launched in 2004\, the Swift space telescope’s orbit is decaying and it will reenter if not reboosted. \nNASA contracted with Katalyst Space Technologies to launch a spacecraft\, LINK\, to rendezvous with Swift and raise its altitude. LINK will be delivered to space by an air-launched Pegasus XL rocket\, carried aloft on the L-1011 Stargazer aircraft. \nPegasus was developed by Orbital Sciences Corp.\, which merged with ATK to become Orbital ATK\, which was then bought by Northrop Grumman. Its first launch was in 1990. \nStargazer\, carrying Pegasus XL and LINK\, will take off from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility\, VA in June. The date is TBD. \nOn June 17\, media are invited to visit Wallops to see the airplane and rocket\, and NASA and Katalyst will hold an audio-only media telecon that will air on NASA’s YouTube channel.  The time for the telecon will be announced later. \nMore information for media who want to attend in person is in NASA’s press release.
