SUMMARY:APOLLO DIALOGUES WORKSHOP: NEW PERSPECTIVES ON SPACEFLIGHT IN SOCIETY\, Dec 7\, 2018\, DC\, 8:30-5:00 ET
DESCRIPTION:The Smithsonian Institution and NASA will hold a workshop on December 7\, 2018 as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the Moon (July 20\, 1969).  It will take place at the Smithsonian’s Ripley Center on the Mall in Washington\, D.C. \nA call for participants is posted on the NASA History Office website.  It states that this workshop is expected to lead to a second workshop i 2019 and ultimately a publication before the Apollo 17 anniversary in 2022. \nIt describes the workshop as follows: \nWe seek to engage 50 to 100 participants representing: \n\na mix of senior\, mid-career\, and emerging scholars and writers;\nparticipants within and beyond the disciplines of space history and the history of science and technology\, including other fields in the social sciences and humanities; and\njournalists\, writers\, and other non-Ph.D. historians who present history in well-researched forms in the print and broadcast media\, documentary and feature films\, popular literature\, and the arts.\n\nWe plan to make travel grants up to $500 to graduate students and others with demonstrable need. \nWe hope to catalyze new research leading to a second workshop in late 2019 and resulting in a publication before the Apollo 17 Anniversary in 2022. \n  \n
