DESCRIPTION:The ScienceWriters 2018 conference will take place in Washington\, DC from October 12-16\, 2018.   On October 15\, from 10:50-11:50 am ET\, a panel discussion will take place on “Apollo Plus 50: The Past\, Present\, and Future of the Space Program.” \nSpeakers include: \n\nApollo 17 astronaut Harrison “Jack” Schmitt\, the only scientist to walk on the Moon\nScott Pace\, Executive Director\, White House National Space Council\nValerie Neal\, Curator\, Space History Department\, National Air & Space Museum\n\nGeekWire’s Alan Boyle organized the session\, which will take place in George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium. \nMore information is on the event’s website.  (Note that the conference website says registration is closed and on-site registration is not available.) \nThe 50th anniversary of the first human Moon landing\, Apollo 11\, is July 20\, 2019.  Schmitt was on the final Apollo Moon landing\, Apollo 17\, in December 1972.  His moonwalking partner\, Gene Cernan\, passed away earlier this year.
