SUMMARY:ARTEMIS I TANKING TEST\, Sept 21\, 2022\, KSC\, 7:15 am ET
DESCRIPTION:NASA will conduct a “tanking test” of the Artemis I Space Launch System rocket on September 21\, 2022 to determine if the seals on the propellant lines will hold. A liquid hydrogen (LH2) leak in a Quick Disconnect fitting between the Mobile Launcher and the rocket’s Core Stage was responsible for scrubbing the launch of Artemis I on September 3. (The launch previously was scrubbed on August 29 and hydrogen leaks were encountered then\, too\, but overcome. The launch ultimately was scrubbed for an unrelated reason.) \nDuring the test\, NASA will fill the LH2 and liquid oxygen (LOX) tanks (hence “tanking”) to test the seals. \nNASA will provide live coverage of the tanking test\, with commentary\, on NASA TV\, NASA Live and the NASA app beginning at 7:15 am ET. \nHowever\, Russia is launching Soyuz MS-22 to the International Space Station the same day with two Russian cosmonauts and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio. Launch is at 9:54 am ET. The launch\, and rendezvous and docking with the ISS\, will be broadcast on NASA TV’s Public Channel. \nThe tanking test will be covered on NASA TV’s Media Channel when Soyuz MS-22 operations are underway. Otherwise it will be on both the Public and Media channels.
