DESCRIPTION:Earth Day has been celebrated every April 22 since 1970 to bring a focus to environmental challenges facing planet Earth. \nThe 2019 theme is Protect Our Species. \nOn Earth Day 2019\, Denis Hayes\, one of the original organizers of Earth Day\, will speak at the National Press Club in Washington\, DC to announce major global mobilizations ahead of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day next year.  The press conference is at 10:00 am ET in the Zenger Room.  Details are on the event’s website. \nNASA invites everyone to post their favorite close-up photo of some feature on Earth on April 22 on Instagram\, Twitter and NASA’s Earth Facebook events page using the hashtag #PictureEarth. “Please be sure to include the location where the photo was taken in the text of your social media post.”  More information is in this NASA press release. \nOther NASA events are detailed in this additional NASA press release. \n
