SUMMARY:ESA PRE-LAUNCH BRIEFING FOR HydroGNSS\, Nov 3\, 2025\, virtual\, 4:00 am ET
DESCRIPTION:ESA will hold a pre-launch briefing on November 3\, 2025 at 10:00 Central European Time (CET\, which is 4:00 am Eastern Standard Time) for the upcoming launch of HydroGNSS. The launch is scheduled for November 10 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base\, CA. \nSpeakers are: \n• Simonetta Cheli\, Director of Earth Observation Programmes at the European Space Agency (ESA) and Head of ESRIN\n• Andrew Cawthorne\, Managing Director at Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL)\n• Jean-Pascal Lejault\, ESA Scout Programme Manager\n• Martin Unwin\, SSTL GNSS Science Lead \nThe briefing will air on ESA’s website. \nAccording to the announcement: \nHydroGNSS is a two-satellite mission that will use a technique called Global Navigation Satellite System reflectometry to measure soil moisture\, wetlands\, freeze–thaw state over permafrost\, forest biomass and other climate variables linked to the global water cycle. It will supply affordable\, frequent measurements to support weather forecasting\, agriculture\, flood prediction and carbon monitoring. \nHydroGNSS is the first of ESA’s new family of Scout missions\, which are developed within three years under ESA’s Earth Observation FutureEO programme. These missions are quick and agile\, paving the way for innovative science and complementing ESA’s Earth Explorer research missions. The resulting scientific data is provided to the science community and to ESA. \nThe twin satellites were built in the UK by a consortium led by SSTL. Launch of the HydroGNSS mission on board a Falcon 9 launcher from Vandenburg\, California\, is scheduled for approximately 19:19 CET / 18:18 GMT on 10 November. \n
