SUMMARY:FIRST ALL-FEMALE SPACEWALK\, Oct 18\, 2019\, Earth orbit\, NASA TV coverage begins 6:30 am ET
DESCRIPTION:Update:  The spacewalk is scheduled for October 18.  NASA TV coverage begins at 6:30 am ET.  The astronauts will exit the airlock at 7:50 am ET. \n  \n  \nNASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will be the first all-female spacewalking team when they make a spacewalk from the International Space Station to repair a failed battery charge/discharge unit (BCDU).  NASA is still finalizing the date for this unexpected spacecraft.  The ISS Twitter account stated on October 16 that it would be no earlier than Friday (October 18). \nNASA had planned a series of five spacewalks to replace batteries on the outside of the ISS.  Two of the first were conducted last week.  However\, when they connected the battery into the ISS systems\, the BCDU failed.  NASA has postponed the other three spacewalks in that series to determine why it failed.  In the meantime\, this spacewalk will replace the failed BDCU. \n
