DESCRIPTION:NASA will hold an event in commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month at 10:00 am ET on October 12\, 2017 with a discussion of the contributions of Hispanics to NASA’s mission and the importance of Hispanic representation in STEM fields.  It will be broadcast on NASA TV. \nOpening remarks will be delivered via video from Dr. Ellen Ochoa\, director of Johnson Space Center\, the first Hispanic woman in space.   It will be followed by a panel moderated by Elvis Cordova\, former acting under secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Panelists are: \n\nDr. Marla Perez Davis\, deputy center director\, NASA’s Glenn Research Center\, Cleveland\nSandra Cauffman\, Earth Science Division deputy director\, NASA Headquarters\nDr. Yaireska M. Collado-Vega\, physical scientist\, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center\, Greenbelt\, Md.\nMarilé Colón Robles\, education outreach coordinator\, NASA’s Langley Research Center\, Hampton\, Va.\nDr. Carolina Aguirre\, director\, Reaching Rural STEM Students\, University of New Mexico\nJose Antonio Tijerino\, president and CEO\, Hispanic Heritage Foundation\n\nActing NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot will provide closing remarks by recorded video. \n
