SUMMARY:IAC BRIEFING: SPACE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT (AIAA et al)\, July 17\, 2019\, DC\, 12:00-1:00 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:In preparation for the 2019 International Astronautical Congress (IAC)\, which will be held in Washington DC from October 21-25\, 2019\, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and eight sister societies will hold three briefings and two receptions from April through September.  Details for some of the briefings are pending\, but as of April 22 this is the schedule. \nThe briefing on July 17 is “Space Traffic Management” and will be held in 485 Russell Senate Office Building from 12:00-1:00 pm ET.  AIAA describes the event as follows: \n\nSpace has become increasingly seen as an economically advantageous environment. Coupled with the advancement of technology and broader launch opportunities\, the number of objects in orbit around the Earth is ever increasing. The global space community recognizes the importance of creating an integrated approach to managing the system of satellites and other objects circling around our planet. Adding to the urgency is the pace of activities occurring in the private sector. Many look to the U.S. to guide the conversation and propose a solution to this complex problem. The panel will address some of the important issues involved in defining a framework for a global approach to space situational awareness/space traffic management. \nPanelists: \n\nAsha Balakrishnan\, Research Staff Member\, Institute for Defense Analysis\, Science and Technology Policy Institute\nTherese Jones\, Senior Director of Policy\, Satellite Industry Association\nGeorge Nield\, President\, Commercial Space Technologies LLC\nKevin O’Connell\, Director\, Office of Space Commerce\, Department of Commerce\nSandy Magnus\, Co-Chair\, IAC Local Organizing Committee (moderator)\n\nFor more information\, contact Steve Sidorek\, AIAA Director for Public Policy and Government Relations: steves@aiaa.org. \n  \n  \nThe other events in the series are: \nIAC Kick-Off Reception \nDate and Time: Tuesday\, April 30 \n                             5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET \nLocation: Rayburn Foyer\, Rayburn House Office Building \nBriefing #1 \nDate and Time: Monday\, May 20 \n                            12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. ET \nLocation: 2325 Rayburn House Office Building \nTopic: Moon to Mars \nBriefing #2 \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, July 17 \n                             12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET \nLocation: 485 Russell Senate Office Building \nTopic: Space Traffic Management \nBriefing #3 \nDate and Time: Wednesday\, September 11 \n                             12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET \nLocation: 2044 Rayburn House Office Building \nTopic: Commercialization of LEO \nPre-IAC Reception \nDate and Time: Tuesday\, September 24 \n                             5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET \nLocation: Rayburn Foyer\, Rayburn House Office Building \nIAC 2019 \nDates: October 21-25 \nLocation: Walter E.
