SUMMARY:LAUNCH AND DOCKING OF PROGRESS MS-09\, July 9\, 2018\, Kazakhstan\, launch 5:51 pm EDT\, dock 9:39 pm EDT
DESCRIPTION:Russia will launch its next cargo spacecraft\, Progress MS-09\, to the International Space Station (ISS) on July 9\, 2018 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 5:51 pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (which will be July 10 local time at the launch site).  NASA TV coverage begins at 5:30 pm EDT. \nThe spacecraft is scheduled to take an ultra-expedited route to the ISS\, arriving after just two orbits. \nRussia has tried this twice before — in October 2017 for Progress MS-07 and in in February 2018 for Progress MS-08 — but both launches scrubbed in the last seconds of the countdown when umbilicals did not retract at the correct time. \nDocking is scheduled for 9:39 pm EDT.  NASA TV coverage begins 9:00 pm EDT. \nNASA refers to this as Progress 70 or 70P because is it the 70th Progress cargo craft sent to resupply the ISS.  There have been many more Progress spacecraft\, however. The first Progress launch was in 1978 to the Soviet Union’s Salyut 6 space station.
