SUMMARY:LAUNCH OF NASA'S PSYCHE ASTEROID MISSION\, Oct 13\, 2023\, KSC\, 10:19 am ET (NASA TV begins 9:30 am ET)
DESCRIPTION:Update\, October 11: The launch has been postponed to October 13 due to weather. The launch time is 10:19 am ET. \nUpdate\, October 4:  The launch is still on for October 12 at 10:16 am ET.  NASA launch coverage begins 9:30 am ET on YouTube\, X\, Facebook\, Twitch\, Daily Motion\, the NASA app\, and the agency’s website. \nNASA also will hold a mission and science briefing at 12 p.m. on Tuesday\, Oct. 10\, and a prelaunch news conference at 1 p.m. on Wednesday\, Oct. 11. Watch on NASA TV\, the NASA app\, and the agency’s website. \nUpdate\, September 28: The launch has been rescheduled for October 12 at 10:16 am ET to allow NASA to verify “the parameters used to control Psyche spacecraft’s nitrogen cold gas thrusters.” \nThe launch window is open through October 25. \nEarlier today NASA told SpacePolicyOnline.com that NASA has determined the Psyche launch is “an excepted activity that may proceed in the event of a lapse in appropriations” meaning a government shutdown. \nUpdate\, August 5: The launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Kennedy Space Center is currently scheduled for October 5 at 10:38 am ET. \nOriginal Entry: NASA plans to launch the Psyche mission to an asteroid by that name in October 2023. The launch window opens on October 5 and runs through October 25. The launch was delayed a year because the Psyche team ran out of time to test the spacecraft’s software and had to wait until Earth and the asteroid were correctly aligned again. \nMore information on this launch will be posted when it becomes available.
