LEADING THE CREW: ROBOTS AS HUMANS PARTNERS (IAF), Jan 13, 2021, virtual, 8:00 am ET (1400 CET)

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) will hold the next in its Global Networking Forum Space Conversation Series on January 13, 2021 at 1400 Central European Time (8:00 am Eastern Standard Time).

The topic is “Leading the Crew: Robots as Humans [sic] Partners.”  It will be livestreamed on YouTube.  More information is on the event’s website.  This description is provided:

This webinar will explore the synergies of robotic and human exploration at the Moon and Mars, highlighting the way in which robot precursors are critical for subsequent human explorers. In addition, we will discuss the ways in which humans ‘in the loop’ will markedly improve the efficiency of robotic scientific exploration, expand the envelope of exploration, and capture the attention and imagination of Earth’s global community. We’ll review both human and robotic missions including Lunar Trailblazer; Artemis Orion, Gateway, and Lander; Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), Insight, Mars 2020, and Mars Sample Return (MSR); and Mars Base Camp exploration orbital and surface missions. And, we’ll focus on emerging technologies that make this unprecedented science possible. By learning more about our solar system, we’re learning more about our home planet. Humans and robots working together make it possible.

Speakers are:

  • Danielle Richey, Architect and Program Manager, Advanced Programs, Human Space Exploration, Lockheed Martin
  • Marcella Yant, Planetary Research Scientist, Deep Space Exploration, Lockheed Martin
