Event Navigation
The Secure World Foundation (SWF) and others will hold the LEO Kinetic Space Safety Workshop from May 4-5, 2022 at the Swiss Technology Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland.
More information is on the event’s website, which says:
LEO Kinetic Space Safety Workshop
When: Wednesday, May 4, 2022
to Thursday, May 5, 2022
Where: Lausanne, Switzerland
The LEO Kinetic Space Safety Workshop aims to provide specific solutions and pragmatic actions to enhance LEO collisional space safety. First, community polling – already in progress – allows any interested party to identify and assess solutions for kinetic space safety. The workshop organizers will then bring together international experts, space practitioners, and others to debate specific solutions over the course of a two-day workshop. Keynote speakers will detail the current states-of-the-art in spacecraft impact tolerance, collision avoidance, debris prevention, and debris remediation. Interactive roundtable discussions will assess the identified proposals, focusing on their benefit, cost, and maturity. Following the workshop, the organizers intend to publish two papers: a position paper, informed by the workshop, with specific recommendations that will serve as a call to action for addressing these challenges, and a compilation and analysis of the results of the community polling.
The workshop will be an in-person event held at the Swiss Technology Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. Registration opens 1 February 2022 at this link.
Leading up to the workshop, the organizers are conducting a of the space community to gather their priorities on specific recommendations for preventing collisions in LEO. The community polling results will be discussed at the workshop and set the stage for further work and advocacy to policymakers.
