SUMMARY:LUNAR SURFACE SCIENCE WORKSHOP VIRTUAL SESSION 4\, Sept 30\, 2020\, virtual\, 12:00-5:00 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:Update\, September 27:  The agenda is now posted and shows it is from 12:00-5:00 pm ET. \nOriginal Entry: NASA\, the Lunar and Planetary Institute\, and the Universities Space Research Association will hold the next their Lunar Surface Science Workshop virtual series on September 30\, 2020.   This session\, and another on October 28\, will focus on Planetary Protection/Permanently Shadowed Region (PSR) Classification and Science Enabled by Mobility. \nMore information is on the event’s website\, but the time is not specified. \n\nVirtual Session 4: September 30\, 2020\nPlanetary Protection/PSR Classification\nMajor questions to be addressed: \n\n\nPP/PSR: Not all PSRs are created equal. \n\n\nWhat are the major distinctions among PSRs? \n\n\nHow do we identify and classify different PSRs (e.g.\, keep-out zones vs. robotic/crew exploration targets vs. impact targets)? \n\n\nWhat other locations (or portions therein) need to be classified? (e.g.\, heritage sites [A11–17\, Luna\, Surveyor\, Chang’E]; past impact sites [LCROSS\, S-IVB\, Apollo ascent stages\, LADEE\, etc.]; current missions [NASA\, commercial\, international]; future infrastructure sites [crewed landings\, solar farms\, sustainable base]). \n\n\nHow do we set policy to govern PSRs and other sensitive/strategic sites within our own agency\, the commercial sector\, and internationally?
