SUMMARY:NASA ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW SOLAR SYSTEM MISSION\, June 27\, 2019\, virtual\, 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm ET (webcast)
DESCRIPTION:NASA will announce the selection of a new solar system exploration mission on June 27\, 2019\, presumably the fourth in the series of New Frontiers missions. The two finalists are: \n\nCAESAR\, led by Cornell University\, to return a sample from the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko\, which was previously visited by ESA’s Rosetta mission\, and\nDragonfly\, led by Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab\, to explore the habitability of Saturn’s moon Titan.\n\nThe announcement will be made at 4:00 pm ET during NASA’s “Science Live” program that will air on NASA TV\, the agency’s website\, Facebook Live\, YouTube\, Periscope and USTREAM. \nAt 5:00 pm ET\, a media teleconference will take place with the following participants: \n\nThomas Zurbuchen\, associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate\nLori Glaze\, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division\nCurt Niebur\, Lead Program Scientist for New Frontiers\nPrincipal investigator of the selected mission\n\nIt will stream on NASA Live. \nNASA will also host an Ask Me Anything Reddit session on July 1\, 2019 at 3:00 pm ET.
