NASA Bfg on Solar Probe Plus, May 2017, Chicago

NASA will make an announcement about its Solar Probe Plus mission on May 31, 2017 at 11:00 ET from the University of Chicago’s William Eckhardt Research Center Auditorium in Chicago, IL.  It will be broadcast on NASA TV.

Solar Probe Plus is scheduled for launch in the summer of 2018.  It will orbit the Sun at a distance of just 4 million miles from its surface, flying through its outer atmosphere — the first spacecraft to “touch” the Sun.

Participants in the briefing are:

  • Thomas Zurbuchen, NASA Associate Administrator, Science Mission Directorate
  • Nicola Fox, mission project scientist, Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab
  • Eugene Parker, S. Chandrasekhar Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, University of Chicago
  • Eric Isaacs, executive vice president for research, innovation, and national laboratories, University of Chicago
  • Rocky Kolb, dean of the Division of the Physical Sciences, University of Chicago
