SUMMARY:NASA/BOEING UPDATE ON STARLINER CFT\, July 25\, 2024\, virtual\, 11:30 am ET
DESCRIPTION:NASA and Boeing will provide an update on the Starliner Crew Flight Test at a media briefing on July 25\, 2024 at 11:30 am ET. \nParticipants are: \n\nSteve Stich\, NASA Commercial Crew Program Manager\nMark Nappi\, Boeing Vice President and Program Manager\, Commercial Crew\n\nNASA astronaut Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams launched on Boeing’s Starliner commercial crew spacecraft on June 5\, 2024 and docked with the International Space Station on June 6.  During that time\, five Starliner Reaction Control System thrusters went offline\, although all but one were restored before docking. Starliner also suffered four more helium leaks in addition to one discovered before launch. \nThe part of Starliner that houses the thrusters and helium manifolds\, the Service Module\, does not return to Earth. It separates from the Crew Module and burns up in the atmosphere. Whatever tests Boeing needs to do to troubleshoot those problems must be done while it is in space. \nButch and Suni were supposed to stay at ISS for only 8 days\, but their visit has been repeatedly extended while ground-tests are conducted. \nNASA and Boeing do not have a set date for their return. That information might be forthcoming at this briefing.
