SUMMARY:NASA CELEBRATION OF THE SPITZER SPACE TELESCOPE\, Jan 22\, 2020\, JPL\, 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am local time)
DESCRIPTION:NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) will hold an event on January 22\, 2020 at JPL to celebrate the Spitzer Space Telescope whose mission is coming to an end after 16 years of operations.  Launched in 2003\, Spitzer is an infrared telescope and one of NASA’s four “Great Observatories” that study the universe in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. The others are Hubble (visible light) launched in 1990 and still operating\, Chandra (x-ray) launched in 1999 and still operating\, and the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory launched in 1991 and deorbited in 2000. \nThe Spitzer event will air live on NASA Television\, Facebook Live\, Ustream\, YouTube\, Twitter and the agency’s website.  It begins at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am Pacific Time).  The public can ask questions on Twitter using the hashtag #askNASA or in the comment section of the NASA Facebook and YouTube pages. \nSpeakers include: \n\nAstrophysics Division Director Paul Hertz\, NASA HQ\nSpitzer Project Scientist Mike Werner\, JPL\nAstrophysicist Farisa Morales\, JPL\nCurrent Mission Manager Joseph Hunt\, JPL\, and\nFormer Mission Manager Suzanne Dodd\, JPL
