Keep up to date by checking “NASA Sets Coverage for Artemis II Moon Mission\,” originally published on March 25\, but continually updated. \nAs of today\, April 5\, this is the timeline for events on April 6 including the lunar flyby: \nMonday\, April 6 \n12:41 a.m.: Orion enters lunar sphere of influence \n2:20 a.m.: Crew sleep begins \n10:50 a.m.: Flight Day 6 begins\, Crew wake up \n1 p.m.: NASA+ coverage of lunar flyby begins. \n1:56 p.m.: The crew will surpass the record for human’s farthest distance from Earth previously set by Apollo 13\, at 248\,655 miles from Earth. \n2:10 p.m.: Crew remarks about Apollo 13 distance record (audio only) \n2:15 p.m.: Crew configures Orion’s cabin for flyby operations \n2:45 p.m.: Lunar observation period begins \n6:47 p.m.: Predicted loss of communications as crew heads behind the Moon (estimated 40-min.) \n7:02 p.m. Orion closest approach to the Moon \n7:05 p.m.: Orion reaches maximum distance from Earth \n8:35 p.m.: Orion enters period with Moon eclipsing the Sun \n9:20 p.m.: Lunar observation period (flyby) concludes \n9:32 p.m.: Solar eclipse period concludes \n10:50 p.m.: Live downlink event \n  \nOriginal Entry: Following the successful launch of the Artemis II mission that is taking NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman\, Victor Glover\, and Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen around the Moon for the first time since the Apollo era\, NASA is providing 24/7 coverage on its YouTube website\, daily press briefings that will air on that website\, and a number of live downlink events. \nThis schedule is posted on NASA’s website as of April 2\, but times are subject to change. \n  \nTimes below are subject to change based on the exact time of launch and mission operations. \nThursday\, April 2 \n7:49 p.m.: Planned translunar injection burn for five minutes and 49 seconds pending mission management team’s approval \n8:30 p.m.: Mission status media briefing after the translunar injection burn to send the crew in Orion toward the Moon. \n10:24 p.m.: Live downlink event \nFriday\, April 3 \n3:30 p.m.: Mission status briefing \n8:44 p.m.: Live downlink event \nSaturday\, April 4 \n12:59 a.m.: Live CSA downlink event \n4:34 p.m.: Live downlink event \n5:15 p.m.: Mission status briefing \nSunday\, April 5 \n12:14 a.m.: Live CSA downlink event \n3:30 p.m.: Mission status briefing \nMonday\, April 6 \n12:45 p.m. 1:00 PM ET: NASA+ coverage of lunar flyby begins. \n1:45 p.m.: For a launch on April 1\, the crew is expected to surpass the record for human’s farthest distance from Earth previously set by Apollo 13\, at 248\,655 miles from Earth. \nAdditionally\, for a launch that day\, video during the lunar flyby may be limited while the spacecraft flies through an eclipse.
