SUMMARY:NASA DAY OF REMEMBRANCE PANEL DISCUSSION ON SAFETY AND LESSONS LEARNED\, Jan 27\, 2022\, virtual\, 3:30 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:NASA Administrator Bill Nelson\, Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy\, and Associate Administrator Bob Cabana — all of whom have flown in space — will lead a panel discussion about safety and lessons learned on January 27\, 2022\, NASA’s 2022 “Day of Remembrance” that honors fallen astronauts. It will air live on NASA Television\, the agency’s website\, and the NASA app. \nThis year the Day of Remembrance is on the 55th anniversary of the Apollo tragedy that killed the crew of Apollo 1 — Virgil “Gus” Grissom\, Ed White and Roger Chaffee — when fire erupted in their Apollo capsule on the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center during a pre-launch test. \nThe day also honors other astronauts who died in the line of duty including the crews of Space Shuttle Challenger (January 28\, 1986) and Space Shuttle Columbia (February 1\, 2003). \nKSC and other NASA centers will hold remembrance events as well\, but due to COVID they are limited to invited guests only.  The KSC event will be broadcast on the KSC’s Facebook page. \nMore information is in the NASA press release. \nCongress created the Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel in response to the Apollo fire to advise Congress and NASA on safety at the agency.  It is meeting from 1:30-3:00 pm ET that day.
