SUMMARY:NASA Day of Remembrance Pre-Event\, Jan 2017\, KSC
DESCRIPTION:NASA will hold its annual Day of Remembrance on January 31\, 2017. The Day honors the astronauts whose lives have been lost in spaceflight-related events.  NASA holds events at many its centers.  \n Kennedy Space Center will hold a ceremony on January 26\, in advance of the Day of Remembrance\, at the Space Mirror at the Astronauts Memorial Foundation hall at the KSC Visitor Complex at 10:00 am ET.  It will be broadcast on NASA TV. \nThis year marks the 50th anniversary of the January 27\, 1967 Apollo 204/Apollo 1 fire that killed the first Apollo crew during a pre-launch test when fire engulfed the spacecraft.  An electrical spark in the 100 percent oxygen cabin atmosphere was determined to be the most likely cause.  Virgil “Gus” Grissom\, Ed White and Roger Chaffee were killed. \n The Day also honors the seven crew members who died in the 1986 space shuttle STS-51L Challenger tragedy and the seven crew members who died in the 2003 Columbia space shuttle STS-107 tragedy.  They are: \nChallenger crew \n\nCommander Dick Scobee\, NASA astronaut\nPilot Mike Smith\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist Ellison Onizuka\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist Judith Resnik\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist Ron McNair NASA astronaut\nPayload Specialist Greg Jarvis\, Hughes Space and Communications\nTeacher in Space Christa McAuliffe\n\nColumbia crew \n\nCommander Rick Husband\, NASA astronaut\nPilot William McCool\, NASA astronaut\nPayload Commander Michael Anderson\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist David Brown\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist Kalpana Chawla\, NASA astronaut\nMission Specialist Laurel Blair Salton Clark\, NASA astronaut\nPayload Specialist Ilan Ramon\, Israeli Air Force
