SUMMARY:NASA Events Re End of Cassini Mission\, Sept 13-15\, 2017\, various times and places
DESCRIPTION:NASA will hold a series of public events in August and September 2017 in connection with the end of the Cassini mission to Saturn.  Cassini has been orbiting Saturn since 2004 and now has reached the end of its operational life.  To avoid potentially contaminating any of Saturn’s moons\, the spacecraft is being commanded to enter Saturn’s atmosphere where it will be destroyed.  It is making a series of 20 “deep dives” into the atmosphere on its way down to collect additional science data.  The final dive and the end of the mission is on September 15\, 2017. \nThe following events are scheduled at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)\, which manages the mission\, in Pasadena\, CA. NASA’s press release notes that times are subject to change. \n\nAugust 29\, media teleconference 2:00 pm Eastern Time (listen at https:www.nasa.gov/cassinitelecon)\n\nCurt Niebur\, Cassini program scientist\, NASA HQ\nEarl Maize\, Cassini project manager\, JPL\nLinda Spilker\, Cassini project scientist\, JPL\n\n\nSeptember 13\n\nnews conference\, 1:00 pm Eastern Time (NASA TV and online)\nmedia tours of JPL Mission Control\, 11:15 am Pacific Time\n\n\nSeptember 14\n\n10:00 am – 3:00 pm Pacific Time\, NASA Social\n\nincludes event at 1:00 pm Pacific Time (4:00 pm ET)  for social media participants to ask questions of Cassini scientists and engineers.  Watch at:  https://www.youtube.com/nasajpl/live  Ask questions via Twitter using #askNASA\n\n\nAfter 2:00 pm Pacific Time\, media tours of mission control at JPL\nAbout 8:00 pm Pacific Time\, final downlink of images (online only)\n\n\nSeptember 15\n\n7:00-8:30 am Eastern Time\, live commentary on NASA TV and online\nAbout 8:00 an Eastern Time\, expected last signal and science data\n9:30 am Eastern Time\, post-mission news conference (NASA TV and online)
