SUMMARY:NASA MEDIA TELECON ON UPCOMING GOLD MISSION\, Jan 24\, 2018\, virtual\, 1:00 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:NASA will hold a media teleconference on January 24\, 2018 at 1:00 pm ET to discuss the upcoming launch of the Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) mission.  The launch itself is scheduled for January 25 at 5:20 pm ET from Kourou\, French Guiana. \nGOLD is NASA’s first “hosted payload” on a commercial satellite.  It is an instrument on the SES-14 communications satellite that will be launched by an Ariane 5 rocket.  The GOLD instrument was built by the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado-Boulder and the mission is led by the University of Central Florida in Orlando. \nBriefing participants on January 24 are: \n\nElsayed Talaat\, heliophysics chief scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington\nRichard Eastes\, principal investigator at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder\nSusan Batiste\, systems engineer at LASP/CU\nKatelynn Greer\, GOLD research scientist at LASP/CU\n\nIt will be livestreamed on the NASA Live website. \nNASA held a press conference about GOLD earlier this month.   It will broadcast the launch on January 25 with commentary from LASP and NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland
