DESCRIPTION:NASA will hold a news conference no earlier than 3:00 pm MOUNTAIN time (5:00 pm Eastern) on August 30\, 2023\, from DOD’s Utah Test and Training Range in northwestern Utah to discuss preparations for the return of samples from the asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS-REx (O-REx) spacecraft.  The sample canister will separate from the spacecraft and land at UTTR on September 24 after a 2.5 year journey.  (The main spacecraft will continue on an extended mission to study the asteroid Apophis after it passes Earth in 2029.) \nParticipants are: \n\nMelissa Morris\, OSIRIS-REx program executive\, NASA Headquarters\, Washington\nDante Lauretta\, OSIRIS-REx principal investigator\, University of Arizona\, Tucson\nRich Burns\, OSIRIS-REx project manager\, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center\, Greenbelt\, Maryland\nSandra Freund\, OSIRIS-REx program manager\, Lockheed Martin\, Littleton\, Colorado\nKevin Righter\, OSIRIS-REx deputy curation lead\, NASA’s Johnson Space Center\, Houston\n\nThe news conference will air on NASA TV\, the NASA app and NASA Live.
