SUMMARY:NORTHROP GRUMMAN NG-21 CARGO FLIGHT TO ISS\, Aug 4\, 2024\, CCSFS\, 11:02 am ET
DESCRIPTION:Update\, August 3: The launch today was scrubbed due to bad weather.  There’s another opportunity tomorrow (August 4) at 11:02 am ET\, but the weather forecast is only 10% “go.” NASA coverage will begin at 10:45 am ET.  If it can’t launch tomorrrow\, a day would be needed to refresh the cargo\, with the next opportunities on August 6 and 7. \nUpdate\, July 31:  The launch time has been refined to 11:29 am ET instead of 11:28 am ET. \nA pre-launch media teleconference is scheduled for August 2 at 3:00 pm ET. See our separate Calendar entry for more information. \nOriginal Entry: The next Northrop Grumman (NG) Cygnus cargo resupply spacecraft for the International Space Statio (ISS) is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station\, FL\, on August 3\, 2024 at 11:28 am ET.  NASA coverage begins at 11:10 am ET on NASA+\, NASA Television\, the NASA app\, YouTube\, and the agency’s website. \nThis is the 21st Cygnus to launch to ISS as part of NASA’s commercial cargo program\, NG-21. \nCygnus usually launches on a Northrop Grumman Antares rocket from Wallops Flight Facility\, Virginia.  However\, the Antares that has been in use for the past several years relies on engines and other hardware from Russia and Ukraine\, which are no longer available due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. NG is developing a new version of Antares with the U.S. company Firefly. Until that rocket is available\, NG is purchasing launch services from SpaceX. \nCygnus was developed by Orbital Sciences Corp\,. which merged with ATK to become Orbital ATK\, which was then bought by Northrop Grumman. The designations of the Cygnus missions consequently have changed over the years from Orb-. to OA-\, to NG-.
