SUMMARY:PLANETARY PROTECTION FOR CREWED MARS MISSIONS (COSPAR/NASA)\, June 1-2\, 2022\, virtual\, 9:30 am-3:00 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:The Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and participating space agencies\, including NASA\, will hold a virtual meeting June 1-2\, 2022 from 9:30 am – 3:00 pm ET each day to discuss “knowledge gaps for planetary protection of future human missions to Mars.” \nMore information is on NASA’s Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) website\, which says: \nThe Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) is holding a workshop June 1 and 2\, 9:30 a.m.  to 3 p.m. Eastern\, for experts to weigh in on aspects of quarantine and sample containment for the first crewed Mars mission. \nThe interdisciplinary workshop is part of planning for future space exploration and is a collaboration between participating space agencies focused on addressing knowledge gaps for planetary protection of future human missions to Mars. \n“It’s an exciting time to be a part of the spaceflight community\, but also an important time\,” said Nick Benardini\, NASA Planetary Protection Officer. “We’re to a point where these are gaps we need to close and we’ll get to the best solutions by continuing to collaborate and work together through workshops like these.” \nContact Bette Siegel for registration information. For information from previous workshops\, visit the Conference Document section of the NASA Planetary Protection website.
