SUMMARY:Return to Flight of Russia's Proton Rocket\, June 2017\, Kazakhstan
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE June 7:  The ILS website currently states that the launch is at 23:45:47 EDT (11:45:47 pm)\, which is 03:45:47 GMT on June 8.  It will livestream the launch beginning at 23:30 EDT (11:30 pm). \nORIGINAL ENTRY:  International Launch Services (ILS)\, which markets Russia’s Proton rocket for commercial users\, states that the Proton rocket will return to flight on June 7\, 2017 Eastern Daylight Time (June 8 local time at the launch site at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan).   The rocket will launch the EchoStar XXI satellite to geostationary orbit. \nThis will be the first flight of Proton since June 9\, 2016.  That launch successfully placed the Intelsat 31 satellite into orbit\, but telemetry showed anomalies during the firing of the second stage engine.  After an investigation\, it was discovered that both the second and third stage engines had defects because the manufacturer substituted lower quality heat resistant alloys in the engine components.  For more information\, see Anatoly Zak’s account on RussianSpaceWeb.com.
