DESCRIPTION:The Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) will hold a hearing at 9:30 am ET in G-50 Dirksen Senate Office Building on “Civilian Control of the Armed Forces.”  The hearing is in preparation for a hearing next week on the nomination of Gen. Lloyd Austin III (Ret.) to be Secretary of Defense (SecDef).  Austin has not been retired from military service for the required seven years so the House and Senate must agree to a waiver to allow him to serve in this capacity. \nWitnesses are: \n\nLindsay Cohn\, Associate Professor\, U.S. Naval War College\nKathleen McInnis\, Specialist in International Security\, Congressional Research Service
