DESCRIPTION:The Planetary Society and the congressional Planetary Caucus will hold a breakfast briefing on Capitol Hill on November 19\, 2019.  Doors open at 7:30 am ET and the program is 8:00-9:00 am ET. \nPlanetary Society Vice President Heidi Hammel will discuss the “Search for Life in the Solar System and Beyond.” \nThe event is by invitation only. \nContact Brendan Curry for more information and the specific location of the meeting: brendan.curry@planetary.org.  The emailed announcement is reproduced below: \n  \n\nThe Planetary Society in conjunction with the Planetary Caucus are holding another breakfast briefing. Here are the details: \nWHEN: Tuesday Nov 19: Doors open at 7:30; Program begins at 8:00 and ends at 9:00. \nWHERE: Capitol Hill \nTOPIC: THE SEARCH FOR LIFE IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND BEYOND \nSPEAKER: Dr. Heidi Hammel \nDr. Heidi B. Hammel\, the current Vice President of The Planetary Society\, is a world-renowned planetary scientist and public speaker.  She received her undergraduate degree from MIT and her Ph.D. from the University of Hawaii\, and she serves as the Executive Vice President of AURA\, a consortium that operates large astronomical observatories\, including the Hubble Space Telescope.  Dr. Hammel served on the imaging team for the Voyager 2 Neptune encounter\, and has studied Uranus and Neptune extensively with many telescopes on the ground and in space. She is an Interdisciplinary Scientist for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope\, and plans to use her guaranteed observing time on that facility to study a diverse array of Solar System targets. She has been recognized not only for both her science\, but also for her work in outreach and communication: she is a recipient of the Carl Sagan Medal and the San Francisco Exploratorium’s Public Understanding of Science Award.  Asteroid “1981 EC20” was renamed 3530 Hammel in her honor. \nBill will be there as well!
