DESCRIPTION:The National Air and Space Museum (NASM) will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Chandra X-ray Observatory at the John H. Glenn Lecture in Space History on September 25\, 2024.  The event will be from 8:00-9:00 pm ET at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly\, VA and online via YouTube. \nParticipants are: \n\nEllen Stofan\, Under Secretary for Science and Research at the Smithsonian (moderator)\nEileen Collins\, commander of the space shuttle mission that deployed Chandra\, STS-93\nCady Coleman\, mission specialist\, STS-93\nPatrick Slane\, senior astrophysicist\, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory’s Chandra X-ray Center\nKimberly Arcand\, visualization scientist emerging technology lead for the Chandra X-ray Observatory who is a leading expert in studying the perception and comprehension of high-energy data visualization\n\nMore information is on the event’s website. \nChandra is operated by the Center for Astrophysics|Harvard & Smithsonian\, previously known as the Harvard-Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. \nNASA is proposing to essentially terminate Chandra in its FY2025 budget request due to budget contraints.
