DESCRIPTION:The Senate Commerce\, Science and Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on June 7\, 2017 in 253 Russell Senate Office Building at 10:00 am ET.  The topic is “FAA Reauthorization: Administration Perspectives.”   The FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation (AST) regulates\, facilitates and promotes commercial space launch and reentries.  Originally it was part of the Secretary of Transportation’s office\, but it was moved into the FAA in 1995.  Some argue that it should be restored to the Secretary’s level where it would not have to compete for resources with other FAA activities.  The issue could be taken up as part of the debate over the FAA Reauthorization bill\, but it is not clear if it will arise at this hearing. \n Times\, dates and witnesses for congressional hearings are subject to change; check the committee’s website for up to date information.  This committee typically webcasts its hearings on its website. \n The scheduled witness for this hearing is:  \n\nElaine Chao\, Secretary of Transportation
