DESCRIPTION:UPDATE\, January 10:  The committee announced today that the hearing will be held in G-50 Dirksen Senate Office Building instead of 253 Russell.  \nOriginal Entry: The Senate Commerce\, Science\, and Transportation Committee will hold a hearing on January 11\, 2017 at 10:15 am ET in 253 Russell Senate Office building to consider the nomination of Elaine Chao to be Secretary of Transportation.  She is the only witness. \nThe FAA and its Office of Commercial Space Transportation are part of the Department of Transportation.  Whether any questions will be asked about her views on commercial space activities is unknown\, but it is a possibility.  \nChao was Deputy Secretary of Transportation under President George H.W. Bush (1989-1991) and Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush (2001-2009).  Most recently she has been a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.  She is married to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.  \nTimes\, dates and witnesses for congressional hearings are subject to change.  Check the committee’s website for up to date information.  Most committee hearings are webcast on the respective committee’s website or YouTube channel.
