SUMMARY:UNIV OF WASHINGTON SPACE DIALOGUE WITH LEOLABS' DARREN MCKNIGHT\, Jan 6\, 2022\, virtual\, 3:00 pm ET
DESCRIPTION:Update\, January 4: An emailed notice today from SPARC says this is at 12:00 pm\, which presumably is Pacific Time\, so 3:00 pm Eastern. \n \n  \nOriginal Entry: The University of Washington Space Policy and Research Center (SPARC) will hold a webinar on January 6\, 2022. \nThe speaker is Darren McKnight\, Senior Technical Fellow for LeoLabs\, who has an extensive career in tracking space objects and addressing the threat from space debris. \nThe event’s website states that the event is from 4:00-5:00 pm\, but does not specify the time zone. Since the University is in Seattle\, we assume that is Pacific Time\, and thus 7:00-8:00 pm Eastern. \n \nHowever\, the registration page says it is at 12:00 pm Pacific\, which would be 3:00 pm Eastern. \n \nCheck those websites for clarifying information that hopefully will be posted later. \nMore information and a registration link are on the event’s website\, which says: \n\nDarren leads LeoLabs efforts to realize the value proposition for the growing global network of ground-based radars for space situational awareness\, space safety\, and space sustainability. Dr. Darren McKnight is currently Senior Technical Fellow for LeoLabs. Working closely with partners and customers throughout the industry\, he creates new data depictions\, develops risk algorithms\, and leads space incident investigations. \nAs a member of the International Academy of Astronautics’ Space Debris Committee\, Darren has been active in position paper development\, selection of symposia papers\, and execution of the annual International Astronautical Congress. His current focus is on developing technical solutions and encouraging global behavior that leads to sustained space operations assurance through limiting the risk of debris collision hazard to space systems in Earth orbit. \nHe has coauthored five books ranging from space debris and spacecraft operations to soccer coaching and innovation. Darren has authored over 100 technical papers and presented them in 16 countries.\nDarren received his Bachelor’s Degree from the United States Air Force Academy in Engineering Sciences\, his Master’s degree from the University of New Mexico in Mechanical Engineering\, and his Doctorate from the University of Colorado in Aerospace Engineering Sciences.
