UPDATE: As of 9:30 am ET, the event has been postponed by weather. The newest “launch time” is 1:30 pm ET (11:30 am in New Mexico, where this is taking place.)
The much anticipated “jump from the edge of space” by Felix Baumgartner is scheduled to take place shortly, according to the Red Bull Stratos website. Red Bull Stratos is sponsoring the daredevil attempt.
Baumgartner has made two preliminary jumps from very high altitudes already, but this would break the record and he would be supersonic for part of the jump. According to the Red Bull Stratos website, at 8:17 am ET today, the mission was to get underway in just over 10 minutes.
