What’s Happening in Space Policy August 4-17, 2019

Here is SpacePolicyOnline.com’s list of space policy events for the next TWO weeks, August 4-17, 2019, and any insight we can offer about them.  The House and Senate are in recess (except for pro forma sessions) until September 9.

During the Weeks

With Congress off on its “August” recess, the Washington space policy scene is pretty quiet, but there are interesting conferences elsewhere this coming week, at least.

The 33rd annual Small Satellite Conference at Utah State University started yesterday and runs through Thursday (with classified sessions Thursday and Friday).  The conference is chock full of interesting sessions — OneWeb’s Greg Wyler is the keynote speaker tomorrow (Monday) — and there are a significant number of side events as well including a NASA Town Hall tomorrow from 10:00-11:30 am Mountain Time (12:00-1:30 pm Eastern).  Conference sessions are being livestreamed.  It is not clear if the side events also will be livestreamed.

In Huntsville, AL, the 2019 Space and Missile Defense Symposium is Tuesday-Thursday, with an opening reception tomorrow night. Speakers include Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, Commander of Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD); Vice Adm. Jon Hill, Director of the Missile Defense Agency; Lt. Gen. James Dickinson, Commander, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense; and Mike Griffin, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.  Several Senators also are on tap, including Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska), Sen. Doug Jones (D-Alabama), and Sen. Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island).

We don’t have a single event for the week of August 12, at the moment anyway.  Good time to head to the beach, mountains or back yard for R&R.

Those and other events we know about as of Sunday morning, August 4, are shown below.  Check back throughout the weeks for others we learn about later and add to our Calender.

Sunday- Thursday, August 4-8 (continued from Saturday)

Tuesday-Thursday, August 6-8
