ARTEMIS BOOSTER TEST AND MEDIA TELECON, Sept 2, 2020, Utah and virtual, various times

NASA will broadcast the test of Northrop Grumman’s “Flight Support Booster-1” which will take place in Promontory, Utah on September 2, 2020 at 2:40 pm ET.  A media teleconference will take place about 1 hour 30 minutes later.

Two Northrop Grumman Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) are needed for each launch of the Space Launch System (SLS), which will send astronauts to lunar orbit as part of the Artemis program.

NASA has already tested the SRBs for the first three Artemis launches (2021-2024).  This test will evaluate improvements and new materials for future launches.  It will be broadcast on NASA TV.

The subsequent media telecon will feature:

  • Bruce Tiller, manager of the SLS boosters office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama
  • Charlie Precourt, vice president of propulsion systems at Northrop Grumman, in Promontory
