Event Navigation
SpaceX plans a static fire test of all 33 engines for its Starship first stage, called Super Heavy, on February 9, 2023 at Starbase in Boca Chica, TX. It will be the first time all 33 engines are fired at the same time.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell made the announcement at the FAA’s Commercial Space Transportation conference in Washington, D.C. today (February 8).
She did not say what time, but local officials close the road from the town of Boca Chica to Starbase when hazardous activities are planned and a road closureis scheduled for 8:00 am – 8:00 pm Central Time (add 1 for Eastern).
Shotwell also did not say if SpaceX would webcast the test, but NASASpaceflight.com has personnel near Starbase and usually livestreams whatever is happening there, as well as Everyday Astronaut.
Closure confirmed for tomorrow.
This will be the closure that will used to attempt the first 33 engine Super Heavy Static Fire. Excitement for sure is in the air.
