Event Navigation
The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee will mark up a number of nominations on July 12, 2023 at 10:00 am ET in 253 Russell Senate Office Building. The meeting will be webcast on the committee’s website.
Among the nominations are three Commissioners and the Inspector General for the Federal Communications Commission:
- Anna Gomez to be a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (PN673)
- Geoffrey Starks to be a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (PN674)
- Brendan Carr to be a Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (PN672)
- Fara Damelin to be Inspector General of the Federal Communications Commission (PN441)
Starks and Carr already are Commissioners whose 5-year terms expire this summer. They are being renominated for another 5-year term. Gomez is new. Her nomination replaces that of Gigi Sohn who withdrew when it became clear she could not win enough votes to be confirmed. If Gomez is confirmed by the Senate, it will finally get the FCC back to its full complement of five Commissioners for the first time since the Biden Administration came into office. Typically three Commissioners are from the President’s party and two are from the other party. Current chair Jessica Rosenworcel, Starks and nominee Gomez are Democrats. Carr and Nathan Simington (whose term does not expire until 2025) are Republicans.
