APOLLO 50TH GALA AT KSC–PANEL WITH APOLLO ASTRONAUTS ET AL, July 16, 2019, KSC, 8:45 pm ET (Available by WebEx)

As part of the Apollo 50 Gala at Kennedy Space Center, FL, Cisco WebEx will use its technology to “reunite Apollo team to mark 50th anniversary of Historic lunar landing”with participants at Kennedy Space Center, FL (where Apollo 11 was launched), Canberra, Australia (the site of tracking stations used for Apollo 11), and aboard the U.S.S. Hornet (the ship that recovered the astronauts after they splashed down) in San Francisco Bay.

The public will be able to watch online via Cisco, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube beginning at 8:45 pm ET.

                        Cisco Webex to reunite Apollo team to mark 50th anniversary of Historic lunar landing

World can watch portion of the prestigious Apollo 50th Gala live via five online platforms

WHAT:            The 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 is a reminder that the historic Moon landing took a huge team

of 400,000 to make the mission a success. On July 16, during the Apollo 50th Gala, presented by Northrop Grumman, a special panel presentation will take place to reunite many of the players to reminisce and reflect on the teamwork that got man on the Moon. Cisco Systems, Inc. will use its Webex technology to connect three distinct teams in different locations to maximize the breadth and depth of the panel. People around the world can watch live online via one of the following:

WHO:       Webex will connect the following groups during the panel:

  • Apollo astronauts and mission control personnel (appearing live at the gala at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex – Mike Collins(Apollo 11 astronaut); Charles Duke (Apollo 16 astronaut); Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9 astronaut); Gerry Griffin (Apollo flight director).
  • Satellite trackers in Canberra, Australia – Members of the 1969 Australian crew that received and relayed to the world the first historic TV images of Neil Armstrong walking on the Moon: John SaxonMike Dinn and Hamish Lindsay.
  • Recovery specialists aboard the USS Hornet in San Francisco Bay – Members of the 1969 USS Hornet crew who helped recover the Apollo 11 astronauts from the Pacific Ocean after splashdown on July 24, 1969: John McLachlanLarry Silva and Sergeant Joe Holt.

OTHER:          The Apollo 50th Gala will be hosted on the date that Apollo 11 launched from Cape Canaveral,

Florida on July 16, 1969. Hundreds of guests will attend the celebration, which will feature a panel discussion with space legends of Apollo, live and silent auctions with one-of-a-kind space memorabilia, and awards to recognize individuals who are pioneering space and molding the next-generation workforce. All proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Aldrin Family Foundation and the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.
