AXIOM-1 UNDOCKING, Apr 24, 2022, Earth orbit, 6:45 pm ET hatch closure/8:55 pm ET undocking

Update, April 23:  Another delay. Still due to high winds in the splashdown area.  Latest plan is undocking Sunday, April 24, 8:55 pm ET and splashdown Monday, April 25, about 1:00 pm ET.

NASA TV and AxiomSpace.com coverage begins on April 24 at 6:30 pm ET for the 6:45 pm hatch closure and 8:30 pm ET for the 8:55 pm ET undocking.

We now are targeting 8:55pm ET Sun., April 24, for #Ax1 undocking from the @Space_Station due to high winds at the splashdown site. Ax-1 splashdown is about 1 p.m. Mon., April 25. At the moment, no impact to Crew-4’s Wed., April 27 launch date, but still watching weather closely.

Update, April 21:  The latest information confirms they will undock on April 23 at 6:35 pm ET and splashdown at 1:46 pm ET on Sunday.

Live coverage of undocking begins at 4:15 pm ET on April 23, with hatch closure at 4:30 pm ET. It will resume at 6:15 pm ET for the undocking.

It will begin again on Sunday at 12:45 pm ET for splashdown.

Update, April 20:  At the moment, undocking is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, at 8:35 pm ET, with splashdown on April 24 at 1:46 pm ET.

Update, April 19: The farewell ceremony took place this morning as planned, but the undocking was then delayed again due to weather. A new schedule has not been announced.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, we are waving off tonight’s undocking of the #Ax1 mission from @Space_Station. The integrated Axiom Space, @NASA and @SpaceX teams are assessing the next best opportunity for the return of Ax-1, the first all-private mission to the ISS.

Update, April 18:  Undocking has been delayed to 10:00 pm ET on April 19 due to poor weather in the splashdown area. The new event times on April 19 are:

• The farewell ceremony remains the same, 7:00 am ET
• Hatch closure is about 8:00 pm ET with NASA and Axiom Space coverage beginning at 7:45 pm ET
• Undocking at 10:00 pm ET with NASA and Axiom Space coverage beginning at 9:45 pm ET

NASA and SpaceX will continue to monitor the weather and the schedule could change again.  If they do undock at 10:00 pm ET on April 19, they would splashdown at 3:24 pm ET on April 20.

Original Entry: The Axiom-1 private astronaut mission will undock from the International Space Station on April 19, 2022 and splash down on April 20.

On April 19:

• At 7:00 am ET, coverage of the farewell ceremony will air on Axiom Space’s  website and NASA TV.
• At 8:15 am ET, coverage of hatch closing will begin on Axiom Space’s website and NASA Live. Hatch closing is scheduled for 8:30 am ET
• At 10:15 am ET, coverage of undocking will begin on Axiom Space’s website and NASA Live. Undocking is scheduled for 10:35 am ET.

Details on splashdown coverage on April 20 were TBD as of April 15.
