BUILDING A STEAM-CTE WORKFORCE OF THE FUTURE, Feb 27, 2020, DC, 12:00-1:00 pm ET

The Space Foundation and the American Astronomical Society will hold a briefing on February 27, 2020 from 12:00-1:00 pm ET in 2325 Rayburn House Office Building on “Building a STEAM-CTE Workforce of the Future.”

The STEAM workforce shortage is a complex and controversial issue. The Space Foundation and the American Astronomical Society are hosting a briefing that aims to look at the problem closely to highlight solutions, on a local and national level, to the STEAM workforce crisis. The briefing will touch on various topics within the STEAM workforce discussion such as the data behind the crisis, how the science community can tackle this issue, STEAM inclusion, technical education training and accessibility issues for underrepresented minorities and women.

The panel is comprised of a diverse group of experts and educators working in STEM, STEAM Ed and space education policy.

  • Dr. Michael Feder: Program Director at AAAS and Director of the AAAS- Lemelson Invention Ambassadors Program
  • Bryan DeBates: Vice President of Education at Space Foundation
  • Dr. Lorelle Espinosa: Vice President of Research at American Council on Education
  • Maria Dahlberg: Program Officer at the Board on Higher Education and Workforce at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

The event is co-sponsored by the Congressional STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) and CTE (Careers and Technical Education) Caucuses. Lunch will be provided.
