CREW-1 WELCOME CEREMONY AND POST-DOCKING NEWS CONFERENCE, Nov 17, 2020, JSC, 1:10 am and 2:00 am ET

Update, November 15, 11:20 pm ET (after docking):  NASA now says the hatches will open at 1:10 am ET.

Update, November 14:  The welcome ceremony aboard ISS after the Crew-1 crew enters the ISS from their spacecraft will take place at about 1:40 am ET.  Joining from JSC will be:

  • ·Kathy Lueders, associate administrator for human exploration and operations, NASA Headquarters
  • JAXA President Hiroshi Yamakawa

It will be followed at 2:00 am ET by a post-docking press conference from JSC with the following participants:

  • Kathy Lueders, associate administrator for human exploration and operations, NASA Headquarters
  • Mark Geyer, director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston
  • Ven Feng, deputy manager, Commercial Crew Program, Johnson
  • Joel Montalbano, manager, International Space Station, Johnson

Update, November 13:  The Crew-1 launch has been delayed for one day, until November 15, due to weather.  Although the launch slipped only one day, the travel time to ISS will be 27 hours instead of 8.5 hours due to orbital mechanics, so docking will be November 16 about 11:00 pm ET.  A welcome ceremony will take place about 2.5 hours later.  More information will be posted about this news conference when it is available.

Update, November 12:  The participant list has been modified.  The current list is as follows.  (Bridenstine and two others now will participate in the welcome ceremony at 7:00 am ET.)

Original entry: NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine and others will hold a news conference at Johnson Space Center, TX on November 15, 2020 following the docking of the SpaceX Crew-1 mission to the International Space Station.

Crew-1 is scheduled to launch on November 14 and dock with the ISS on November 15 at 4:20 am ET, with hatch opening at about 6:30 am ET followed by an in-orbit welcome ceremony.

NASA TV will provide continuous coverage of launch, docking and hatch opening beginning at 3:30 pm ET on November 14.

This post-docking news conference will follow at approximately 7:20 am ET November 15.  Participants are:

  • Kathy Lueders, associate administrator, Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters
