Footsteps to Mars:
“Societal and Biomedical Implications of Mars Settlement“
Thursday, August 3, 3:00 pm EDT
The Mars environment presents many challenges to human survival and long-term residence. In addition to microgravity health impacts, radiation, unbreathable atmosphere and dust storms, surviving alien microorganisms can present a health risk. Each of these elements encompass many ethical, policy and research issues. International agreements and planetary protection establishing an exploration framework will be also addressed.
Join Tony Darnell, Harley Thronson and Alberto Conti as they continue discussions with Arnauld Nicogossian (George Mason University), Charles Doarn (University of Cincinnati), Catharine A. Conley (NASA Planetary Protection Officer) and Cherie Oubre (Senior Scientist, KBRWyle/JSC NASA), addressing health and societal challenges of traveling, living and working on Mars.
