GALACTIC 07: LAST COMMERCIAL FLIGHT OF VSS UNITY (Virgin Galactic), June 8, 2024, Spaceport America, NM, 10:30 am ET
Event Navigation
Virgin Galactic will launch Galactic 07, its second suborbital spaeflight of 2024 and the last flight of the VSS Unity spaceship, on June 8, 2024. The window for takeoff from Spaceport America in New Mexico opens at 8:30 am MOUNTAIN Time (10:30 am Eastern).
Virgin Galactic uses an aircraft, Eve, that flies the spaceship, Unity, to about 40,000 feet then releases it. Unity then fires its rocket engine to fly above the imaginary line that separates air and space for a few minutes of weightlessness, then returns to land at Spaceport America.
The company is developing a new spaceship, Delta, that can carry more passengers (and hence generate more revenue). Galactic 07 is the final flight of Unity. Future Virgin Galactic flights will have to wait until the new Delta vehicle is ready.
As of June 7, the company has only publicly named one of the four passengers who will aboard Galactic 07, a researcher associated with Axiom Space, Tuva Atasever. The other three are listed simply as “private astronaut” with their state or country of origin.
Virgin Galactic will provide updates on X, but does not mention any live coverage of the flight.
A virtual post-flight press conference will take place. The link will be posted on the company’s YouTube channel.
