Event Navigation
UPDATE, SEPTEMBER 11: The committee has postponed the hearing. No reason was given, but the impending approach of Hurricane Florence is making the House reconsider its plans for this week. No new date was provided.
ORIGINAL ENTRY: The Commerce-Justice-Science (CJS) subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing on NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) program on September 13, 2018 at 10:30 am ET in H-309 Capitol.
NASA informed Congress earlier this year that JWST will breach the congressionally-imposed $8 billion cost cap by 10 percent and the launch will be delayed until 2021. An independent review board chaired by Tom Young made recommendations on what needs to be done now.
Witnesses are:
- Thomas Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA
- Tom Young, chair, JWST Independent Review Board
The hearing will be webcast on the committee’s website.earing
